Satanism for Young Readers: A Review of His Dark Materials. Lyra meets a new friend, a young boy murderer named Will. Over 1000 His Dark Materials is a trilogy of fantasy novels, coming together to form an epic, by Philip Pullman comprising Northern Lights (1995, published as The Golden Compass in North America), The Subtle Knife (1997), and The Amber Spyglass (2000). I was shocked and disgusted by the twisted depth of some of the characters. It consists of three books, The Golden Compass (titled Northern Lights in some other countries, notably the UK), The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. His Dark Materials is a trilogy written by Philip Pullman. I do not want to put off anyone from reading this trilogy. Film Fantasy Friday: The Amber Spyglass. See my post on The Golden Compass. The second book of the trilogy, The Subtle Knife, is more overt in its hatred of Christianity than the first book, and the third entry, The Amber Spyglass, is even more blatant. I know, I know, there was a mostly-fail of a movie made out of The Golden Compass, the first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy. In America, the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights called for a boycott of the film adaptation of the first in the trilogy, The Northern Lights or The Golden Compass, as it introduced children to atheism. The quality of Pullman's imaginative writing is best displayed in the ending of the trilogy, in The Amber Spyglass. And this time I'm reading a omnibus book that collects the three novels of Philip Pullman's; His Dark Materials trilogy: Northern Lights; The Subtle Knife; The Amber Spyglass. Because “The Golden Compass” is based on the least offensive of the three books, and Though the movie promises to be fairly non-controversial, it may very well act as an inducement to buy Pullman's trilogy, His Dark Materials. It hardly takes The Subtle Knife introduces Will, a boy who lives in our world, who is on the run after accidentally killing an intruder in his house. Books two (The Subtle Knife) and three (The Amber Spyglass) only get better (sarcasm).
